Get Crafty! |
Get Crafty - Crayons, paints and sticking are probably the most popular way for spend a rainy afternoon. You can put a different spin on things with potato printing or collages made from things in the cupboard such as pasta shapes, lentils and rice. Painting stones and terracotta pots are also very popular at Maison Monkey!
Sort Through Toys - Toddlers love helping out and you will be amazed how old toys that haven't seen the light of day for a while are re-discovered by your child! As well as keeping little one's entertained for a while, you get the added bonus of getting rid of some clutter! On the same tack.. a helpful toddler will enjoy playing 'housework'. My Tot has her own little sweeping brush and loves sorting the washing onto the airer.
Big Cook, Little Cook - Get busy in the kitchen with your toddler. Rice Krispie or Cornflake cakes are simple to make and a great way to get your child involved. You will need:
- 75 g white chocolate, or milk chocolate
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 30 g rice crispies or cornflakes
Melt the chocolate with the golden syrup in a large bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Add the krispies and gently fold in. Spoon into mini bun cases and put into the fridge for 30 minutes to set. These are best eaten within 24 hrs.
A great savoury option are tortilla wraps. Let your toddler choose the ingredients to make their own tasty wrap for lunch.
We would love to hear your favourite rainy day activities!
messy play - my rascal loves messy play ranging from shaving foam, cornflakes, paint or sphagetti dyed diff colours. anything messy and he'll play for hours ;)

I love a good toy sort - but my son rediscovers EVERYTHING and we end up in more of a mess than we were to start with! I have to sort them when he's in bed and then on a rainy day we swap from one toy box to another (we have three that rotate) and get all the joy of the 'new' box - and if that doesn't work, out come the jigsaws! (I'm @mommatwotweets by the way)
ReplyDeleteLiking the rotating toy box idea.. might have to try that one :o)
ReplyDeleteSalt dough is always good fun... just dont leave the bag of flour near your baba like i did!!
ReplyDeleteWe too have a rotating toy box which my daughter loves - she relates it to getting 'new' toys everytime it is rotated.
