A note on Tantrums

These past few weeks Tot has treated us to some tantrums of epic proportions. They can be caused by almost anything... she wants to put the keys on the table, she wants to stand the toothpaste up, she wants to walk up the stairs backwards.
Going against our little Empress results in 'floor bottom shuffling' which if left will gather momentum and dissolve into full out paddy meltdown - hysterics, crying and eventually demanding that I pick her up and "go THIS way." I'm still not sure where 'this way' is as every time we get there she changes her mind.
Leaving the park is always a great spectator sport for parents who can empathise with us as we carry our livid toddler and try to bend her into her carseat or buggy. Lollipops, Buttons and similar bribes no longer work.
If woken from a nap by household noise (Little Bear has perfected a particular high pitched squeal) she has been known to barricade herself in her room and throw a massive hissy should anyone try to enter. I have been surprised sometimes at the sheer energy of her rage.
Maybe its an attention thing, maybe its because she's two and a half and life's tough. I hope its not a glimpse into the teenage years!

  1. My daughter is nearly 3 and she can throw the biggest strops ever! This morning's spectacular show was because I wouldn't let her wear odd shoes to walk to school - she couldn't decide which ones to wear so wanted to wear 1 sandal and 1 flip flop!

  2. Our 5-year old has some pretty epic tantrums but they're much easier to deal with now as we can reason with him! Just persevere, it will get easier!!!

  3. I feel for you, I am going through the exact same thing with my pudding. She refuses car seats, pushchairs, shopping trolley seats, you name it, if it involves being restricted in any way she is not having any of it :(

  4. Thanks for your comments. Seems like we all have to count to ten (or more) quite often, lol! Its quite funny really because when I feel really stressed, Tot will then do something so affectionate or cute that it all melts away. I just keep trying to remember that she is still a baby and its her way of learning, even if it is sooooo infuriating sometimes!
